I spend time before I paint — listening, asking questions, looking carefully. The patterns and details surrounding a figure in my work come from what I've learned about that person: where they come from, their heritage, the things that have shaped them. The painting sees them fully, and with warmth.

One client commissioned a portrait of herself as a gift to her husband — to mark their anniversary, and a difficult year that had changed them both.
