Private commissions of the people who matter most — a parent, a child, a stage in family life.

My commissions begin with a conversation, not a paintbrush (not straight away anyway). I ask you to bring an object that’s precious to you, but the object isn’t really the point; it’s the conversation it sparks. Of course likeness in a portrait is important, but your story is what changes everything. And when your story is seen through this artist’s eyes, it becomes pattern.

Pattern travels across cultures and centuries - and gathers meaning along the way. It’s a visual shorthand for your history, heritage and memories. If this sounds like the kind of portrait you would cherish then please get in touch I would love to chat.

One client commissioned a portrait of herself as a gift to her husband - to mark their anniversary, and a difficult year that had changed them both.

Thank you for painting my wife (JJ). When I opened the package from DHL I had no idea what I was about to reveal.

When I pulled it from the box and unveiled the painting, I was amazed, honoured, and grateful.

The painting is beautiful and when I read your message out loud I cried.  It was such a nice message and it meant so much that you included it. We will eventually do another painting of her as we were both inspired.

Thank you again for such a beautiful piece of art. We will forever cherish it.

Mike, South Carolina.

Common questions

How does the commissioning process work?

Every commission begins with a discovery call — a relaxed conversation about the person you have in mind and what you hope the portrait will convey. We then discuss scale, medium and the patterns that will shape the painting. Once these are agreed, a price can be confirmed and a simple agreement secures the commission.

What does a portrait commission cost?

Prices vary depending on size, medium and whether the piece is framed in an antique frame. The commissions brochure includes a full range of price examples, from small mixed-media works to large oil portraits. Please request the brochure using the form above.

How long does a portrait take?

Most commissions take between three and six months from our first conversation to the finished painting, depending on scale and complexity. We will agree a realistic timeline together at the start.
