On The Easel
2026. Mixed media on plywood, mounted on a hand-decorated back panel and framed with hand-painted detail. The portrait panel is 38 x 31.5 cm, the frame is 51 x 46 cm.
I had the absolute pleasure of meeting three brothers at their home just
outside of Chipping Norton. It was a beautiful, sunny early-spring morning, and we
all sat around the kitchen table, drawing and painting. We went outside and played
for a while, and then we took some photos.
I had great chats with them all and came away thinking what fine young boys they
are and what kind, thoughtful, spirited young men they are going to grow up to be.
In my portraits, patterns and motifs do more than decorate - they carry threads of
history, heritage, and meaning. When painting young people, I find myself drawn
not only to their individuality, but to the world that is shaping them - a
tapestry of influences, hopes, and dreams that surrounds them, even as their own
stories are just beginning.
The portraits will be delivered to their proper home at the end of this month and I look forward to sharing all 3 of them next month.
